Nobody was happier about the birth of Barbara Pierce Bush’s son than his cousin, Hal Hager.
In a recent conversation with People, Jenna Bush Hager revealed that her three kids were thrilled to learn that their aunt had welcomed her second child with husband Craig Coyne. But her youngest, 5-year-old Hal, little Edward’s arrival couldn’t have come at a better time.
“My son’s birthday is on August 2, and [the baby] was born on August 4. So when he got his gifts, I said, ‘Here are your presents, but guess what? Auntie Barbara gave you a baby.”
“He was like, ‘That’s so much better than all the presents!'” Jenna recalled. “I think he’s particularly thrilled that he’s going to have a little dude to hang out with.”
The Today co-host went on to share how much it meant to her to be able to visit her twin sister in the hospital.
“It was amazing. I mean, I was so happy that I got to go to the hospital and meet him,” Jenna said. “It’s so fun to watch your sibling, whom you have loved your whole life, get to add to her beautiful family. It’s incredible.”
Coyne and Barbara previously welcomed their first child, daughter Cora Georgia, in September 2021.
Jenna and Barbara, who now have five kids between them, released their third children’s book, Love Comes First, in November 2023. In a video posted on Amazon, Barbara explained that the book was inspired by the joys and difficulties of expanding a family.
“When both of our families grew, we wanted to write about how there’s always room for more love,” she said. “We were once again motivated by the idea that we’re stronger together and the more that we have people in our lives that have our back, the braver we can be.”
